Brine is one of the many English surnames of Breton origin that was brought over in the Norman conquest of England. Conjecturally, they are descended from Brien de Bretagne who fought at the Battle of Hastings and is said to have commanded a band of Bretons on the western flank along with his brother, Alan le Noir.
